Live Each Day As If It Were Your Last!

“Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways.”  ~Stephen VincentBenét

I guess we really don’t appreciate things until they are long gone!  We live our lives as if we will be here forever, and then such as in Italy recently, an earthquake strikes or a natural disaster and it your whole life has changed, or in some cases it has ended!  As long as you read about news from a far land you can get a false sense of security, but when it happens in your back yard, reality strikes! This could be you!

A time of reflection is healthy and often occurs when something devastating happens just around the corner.  But it would be wise to have this “reflection” each and every day!  Just think, what if you didn’t show just how much you appreciated your wife/husband/child or friend yesterday, and you wake up to find that they are missing through an accident or disaster? We often think of where we have failed so miserably in times such as these, but in the hustle and bustle of the day, we can tend to largely ignore or take for granted those we live and work with.

We would be better off living as though today was our last.  Be there for others, show appreciation, give a hug, be kind because tomorrow may never come for them, or even for you.  This is a reality that we often choose to ignore since it is an unpleasant thought, but the world would be a better place if we all had this mindset!  –Carpe Diem

I totally agree with you Rusty. One thing I always used to say to my girl is tomorrow could me my last day ;) Thinking that aids me to be consistent with my plans and tend to appreciate others always. But I have hope for the future.

I’ve never heard of earthquakes at Italy. Even from my friends over there. That’s a huge disaster. Here first time we got a Tsunami in 2004 and lost many lives. No point of talking about inanimates. Since then people start to think about uncertainty of lives, eventhough it teaches through religion long ago. However I think mostly it feels for affected ones who lost their friend, parent or someone close.

Over time that feeling fades away from people. That terrified feeling is what made them think about uncertainty. Some will change their attitudes toward the life. But after feeling that they are safe again, most people fail to appreciate others and so. That’s the sad part of this story.

Nice post Rusty :) People should think about this at least for one moment seriously.

    Cheers…

It is so true how we can be touched by a recent tragedy, but it tends to wear off after a while and we can lose that sensitivity towards others. It is sad, but often it takes a tragedy to bring out the best in us.

So glad to hear you are all okay. I would agree with Mayura that over time we forgot those feelings and tend to go back to our “normal” lives. Sad but true. I remember being in the hospital a week very sick from meningitis thinking I’ll never rush through another day of life again. That lasted about a few months. But every now and then when I’m in a rush I will think back to that time and reflect and slow down.

Wow, meningitis! That must have been tough! I am sure it did help you see how valuable it is to have good health. I am happy that you got through it all well! As you said, we can tend to forget these tough times when things are once again “normal”.

Don’t squander your life with “feelings” As a survivor and a nurse, I’m telling you life is a rat race….point A to point B…

I completely agree with living each day fully. I am a survivor of childhood cancer. I wasn’t supposed to survive; because of my treatments I wasn’t supposed to have kids, i have two, because of that I had to have a hysterectomy, the doctor made a mistake, I had to get repaired with an implant. Soon after that my appendix burst. I always say I am like a cat with 9 lives. I have now used about 7 of them and I am not wasting anymore time. I am tired of survivors guilt. I am ready to share my stories and let people know that life is miraculous and wonderful! Make each day memorable for you and the ones closet to you! Remember someone always has it worse! Thanks for sharing this! You can read more about my story on http://www.itsashawnthing.com

Thank you so much Rusty for this post. I am a changed man. I look at life with so much negative elements. I blame God for everything bad happens to me. But when I got car accident just this month, I saw the importance of life. Having my second life on earth is such a wonderful gift I ever had. Now I always treasure everything I have and embrace life positively. Thanks Rusty!

Life experiences have inspired me to blog. I have not been blogging near as much as I would like lately as I have taken on a rather time consuming business at the moment that requires my concentration. I will no doubt have many more things to blog about once I have the time! THank you for your visit Meliksah
